Why Be Green?
WHY BE GREEN?
My favorite word to describe the Green Party is definitely “quixotic”. I know that Greens are idealistic. I know that we’re all fighting an uphill battle against a bunch of windmills. Are non-violent solutions to international conflicts really feasible? Is the priority of applying ecological wisdom to situations even practical? I sure hope so. World peace and the future sustainability of our planet are certainly necessary goals worth working for, and I would be remiss to spend the short time I have on this earth doing anything less.
All I know is that when I first read the Ten Key Values (http://www.gp.org/tenkey.shtml)… I had arrived. I was home.
As voters, the most powerful vote that we cast is how we register. Primaries and caucuses come around every so often, but registering with a particular party is like casting a ballot each and every day. The party with which you register sends a strong message to your elected officials that as a constituent in their district, you align yourself with that particular party’s values. It lets your elected officials know that if they want your continued support, they had better start coming around to your way of thinking.
If you have read the Ten Key Values, and you saw your own values reflected in them, then don’t wait any longer! Start casting your vote for non-violence, ecological wisdom, social justice, and grassroots democracy right now. You can register to vote, or change your registration to GREEN by going here:
